About Us - The Baker's Dozen

How Richie's Bakery started

The brother and sister team, Richie and Catherine started their apprenticeships in their parent’s bakery in Bowral NSW. They followed in the footsteps of their father and grandfather and became third generation bakers.

Richie and Catherine learnt their craft from their father Bill and our business sense from their mother Janice who worked in the shop and dealt with all the day to day runnings for 25 years.

In 1996 they moved to Tewantin and bought the local bakery. Nearly 15 years later they are still doing what they love.

They now have two great locations, the main shop in Tewantin and in 2007, they bought the bakery in Cooroy.

Richie and his team take care of the daily baking whilst Catherine does all the birthday cakes, wedding cakes and special occasion cakes plus runs the front shop with the help of a great team.

Their parents still play a role in Richie’s Bakery, with Bill still coming in and helping at the Tewantin shop and Janice helping at the Cooroy shop.

Richie and Catherine modelled their business on their parent’s bakery. They maintain that baking a good product DAILY and producing traditional lines gives them the edge over some more modern bakeries as people like to be reminded of their childhood.

They look forward to the next ten years and beyond so invite you to come along for the ride!
